Legend has it that this hiU was really an elephant belonging to the Emperor of Heaven, and that when the Jade Emperor set out to conquer the Earth, the elephant was made to work so hard providing transport that he fell sick and some farmers saved his life. For this the elephant was very grateful and decided to stay on earth and help the farmers. The Emperor of Heaven was so angry about its drinking from the river. The emperor's sword thrust tumed the elephant into the rocky hill, hence the name. A pagoda erected on top of the hill stands for the hilt of the sword.

Wuhan Attractions
When you make a travel in Wuhan,Yellow Crane Tower and The Facelift of the Warship are the most popular places to go.
Yellow Crane Tower
Yellow Crane Tower, one of the Three Great Towers south of the Yangtze River (the other two being Yueyang Tower in Hunan, and Prince Teng Pavilionin Nanchang), attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists both fromhome and abroad every year. A military observation post overlooking the Yangtze River already well known more than 1,700 years ago (Wu Kingdom built it in the period 222 to 280) ,the place became nationally famous as later dynasties built and rebuilt a tower there. A delightful legend has it that a fairy riding a yellow crane was once attracted to the site, hence the name. Over the centuries the tower was repeatedly destroyed in wars or by fires. A conflagration in 1884 finally razed it to the ground. In the Qing Dynasty alone, the tower was rebuilt or renovated four times. As the nation became weaker and poorer in the subsequent years, reconstruction seemed impossible .Nostalgic tourists could find the tower only in ancient poems and paintings. As things got better after the reform and opening-up in 1978, the city authorities rebuilt it in 1986, using the old records and pictures as a model. Beside the new Yellow Crane Tower is a White Stupa (a tower-like Buddhist shrine )that dates from the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368).

Guangxi Piled Silk Hill
The Piled Silk Hill lies to the north of the city. The tourist will find the hill broken here and there with the strata exposed on the sides like piled-up silk, hence the name. The top of the Piled Silk Hill provides a panoramic view ofthe beautiful Guilin. Legend has it that there used to be many osmanthus tress on the hill, so it is sometimes called Osmanthus Hill. As there is a particular strange wind cave in the hill, it is al-
so named the Wind Cave Hill. Actually this point of interest consists of two hills named Siwang and Yuyue and two peaks called Xianhe'仙(Crane) and Mingyue (BrightMoon). Climbing several flights of stone steps, the tourist will first reach the Piled Silk Pavilion. To the west of the pavilion is the Siwang Hill standing opposite the Yuyue Hill.
Inscribed on the pavilion is a "Note to the SiwangHill" written by a Tang poet Yuan Hui. The three big characters meaning the "Piled Silk Hill" was written in 1964 by Shen Yinmo, a contemporary calligrapher. Turning back from the Xianhe Peak, the tourist will have access to the Wind Cave by entering the Piled Silk Gate and passing through the Yangzhi Hall. The marvel of the Wind Gate, a most extraordinary sight on the Piled Silk Hill, is characterized by its gentle breeze. The cave runs from south to north and is breezy all the year round. In the cave the tourist will find stone gates, stone carvings and images. At the north entrance of the cave there is a Breeze-Inviting Pavilion, which was first built in the Ming Dynasty and rebuilt in 1972. Two-storey and open on all sides, it is an ideal place for enjoying beautiful views. Coming out of the pavilion and walking along the right side of the hill, the tourist will find the River-Watching Pavilion, which was first built in the Ming Dynasty and rebuilt in 1954. Climbing more than 200 steps farther from the River-Watching Pavilion, the tourist will reach the Mingyue Peak, where stands the Cloud-Catching Pavilion built after 1949.The scenery is rewarding and looks like a huge picture of embroidery. It is really a tourist attraction. Everyday it draws many thousands of visitors.

Chinese Revolutionary History
Burning Opium in the Opium War in 1840
A revolutionary movement broke out to resist the smuggling of large quantitiesof opium into China by the British imperialists. From June 3 to 25, 1839,more than1,185,000 kilograms of opium was destroyed. It showed the Chinese people's determination to struggle against imperialism and marked the beginning of their resistance.
The Jintian Village Uprising in Taiping Revolution
The Taiping Revolution was the biggest and longest revolutionary peasant uprisingin the Chinese history. Led by Hong Xiuquan (1814-1864), this great anti-imperialist, anti-feudal peasant movement first broke out in Jintian Village in Guangxi in 1851. The revolutionary flames soon spread to six provinces and the revolutionaries established their capital in Nanjing.
The Wuchang Uprising (1911 Revolution)
The year 1911 was the one in which the decisive battle against the Manchu Government was fought. Late on the evening of October 10, the revolutionary forces wrecked the cannon in front of the office building of the governor of both Hunan and Hubei provinces, pulled down the royal flag and broke through the gate of the governor's mansion. The first success of the revolution was at Wuhan, Hubei Province. The last feudal dynasty collapsed under the fierce attack of the revolutionary torrent on October 10, 1911.
May 4th Movement
An anti-imperialist patriotic movement broke out on May 4, 1919 in Beijing. It was the turning point of the Chinese democratic revolution. On that day, several thousand Beijing students held a rally in front of Tian'anmen. A parade followed in which participants held aloft banners inscribed 'No signature to the 'peace treaty'! " and distributed the leaflets "Uphold our sovereignty! Punish the traitors ! "

Gansu Crescent Spring
At the foot of the Singing Dunes lies the Crescent Spring (known as Sand Well in the ancient times). In warm and sunny weather, the spring water at the foot of the Singing Dunes evaporates under the direct sunshine and forms an invisible shield, which happens to constitute a natural resonator together with the steep, crescent slope of the Singing Dunes. Among the sounds of different frequencies given out by the friction of sand-drift, there wil linevitably be a sound, which will bring about resonance of the resonator by chance. Along with the amplification of the sound, the resonance turns out to be like the roar of thunder, hence there comes the singing sand.

More interesting than the singing sand is the phenomenon of "non-encroachment of sand on spring" at the Singing Dunes and Crescent Spring. The havoc caused by wind and sand in the Northwest is terrific. They can turnfertile farmland into desert, blow sheep up into the sky and even overturn a train. The small Crescent Spring at the foot of the Singing Dunes, however, can go through all vicissitudes and remain safe and sound despite evaporation that is tens of times more than precipitation. It is indeed mysterious that the precipitous dunes beside the spring have never collapsed and buried the spring water, but, on the contrary, it has surrounded and protected the spring likeiron arms and kept the spring water even in long drought.
The beautiful sight and the wonderful natural structure of the Singing Dunes and the Crescent Spring have added to their fascination. To know, you mustgo!
